In 1992 The National Golf Foundation (NGF), an organization financed and supported primarily by the major suppliers of golf equipment and apparel, staged a convention at which one of the foundations leaders stated, "we need one golf course to open every day in the next 10 years". Many of the golf course owners in attendance immediately cringed at the thought. While the game experienced tremendous growth throughout the 90s, there was certainly a sense of "irrational exuberance". By 1999, supply began to outstrip demand and by 2001, the golf business had entered into a severe recession. Things have not improved and golf clubs in all categories have suffered. Some clubs will survive - many will not. Fraser Golf Consultants can help you through the process of determining which direction you should take your property.
We are a family that has been in the golf business since the early 1900s. Leo Fraser, past president of the PGA and owner and operator of a number of golf clubs, was one of the first, if not the first golf consultant in America. Leo recognized in the early 1960s that most golf clubs were not being operated by trained professional managers. As he travelled the country, his sons, Jim and Doug, often travelled with him and gained valuable experience.
Operational Experience. There is an obvious need for lawyers and accountants, however nothing is more valuable than having people on your side that understand the intricacies of the golf business. The Frasers have been involved in every facet of the business at clubs they have owned, operated and provided consultant services. Doug is a past golf course superintendent and is an expert in the food and beverage area. Jim serves as the president of Fraser Golf and has an expertise in real estate values, insurance and employment issues, marketing strategies and the "nitty gritty" of every financial aspect of the golf business. To round out the team, Don Siok, Doug and Jim's brother-in-law, has been a PGA professional for 40 years, and Casey Fraser, Jim's son, has built golf courses throughout the United States.
After the initial contact, depending upon the issue, Jim, Doug or both will tour the site. Meetings will take place with the principals and will include the management team, when appropraite. The initial tour and meetings will typically last 1-2 days and within five days, a preliminary report will be submitted. Attached to the preliminary report will be a proposal for continuing services recommended by Fraser Golf Consultants.
